Pledging Forever with Wedding Vows

Today's choices in wedding vows are almost as varied and endless as choices in flowers, favors and dresses. Many couples are choosing to express their vows in non traditional selections such as customizing love poems and letters, writing their own vows and even borrowing wedding vows from celebrities. There are wedding vows to suit every taste, style and wedding.

No matter which type of wedding vows a couple chooses, the vows will generally fall into three main categories.

There is the traditional "Do you take…." wedding vows which ends (hopefully!) with the much rehearsed and practiced response of "I do." These types of wedding vows are a good selection for couples who are shy about revealing their feelings before a large audience.

Another traditional type of wedding vow involves the bride and groom repeating a pledge to one another such as the standard "I take you…to hand and to hold…for better or for worse…" Many modern couples complain these wedding vows are too 'cookie cutter,' uninspired and common.

For those couples who are more daring, brave and expressive there are a multitude of options available in customizing wedding vows and writing wedding vows.

Writing Your Own Wedding Vows

Writing your own wedding vows is one of the many popular trends for today's weddings.

While the task of writing your own wedding vows can appear to be daunting, it allows couples the freedom to express their most intimate thoughts and feelings as they are joined together in matrimony. For brides and grooms who suffer with a case of writers' block, there are a number of websites that can assist by offering personalized wedding vows.

Culturally Inspired Wedding Vows

Many couples are choosing to incorporate elements of their ethnic culture and history into their weddings vows. Culturally aware couples can choose from a wide variety of songs, poems, blessings and prayers instead of traditional wedding vows. Just a few of the more popular choices in wedding vows include the Blessing of the Apaches, a Traditional Irish Blessing and a Hindu Marriage Poem.

Interfaith Wedding Vows

Couples of different faiths are also choosing to play it safe with interfaith weddings and wedding vows. This seems to be a compromise for those couples who wish to avoid hurt feelings and anxiety on the happiest day of their lives.

Celebrity Wedding Vows

Still yet, other couples are inspired by the wedding vows of celebrities and are adding them into their own ceremonies! Wedding vows of such celebrities as Bruce Willis/Demi Moore; Cindy Crawford/Richard Gere and even Elvis and Priscilla can be found on the net these days.

Television and Movie Wedding Vows

Some couples who just can't resist the romance of the silver screen and are using popular wedding vows from television and movie couples for their own weddings. Among the top choices are David and Donna's vows from Beverly Hills 90210 and Bo and Hope's wedding vows from Days of Our Lives.
